01Where does this data come from?
Every figure comes from the Chicago Data Portal's 311 Service Requests dataset, the city's own record since 2018, refreshed daily. Two kinds of rows are left out everywhere on this page: information-only calls, which the city files at City Hall's address, and aircraft noise complaints, which all point at O'Hare. Neither says anything about a building.
02Do complaints show who filed them?
No. The public dataset carries no names or contact details, so a report shows what was filed at an address, never who filed it.
03Why does my address return nothing?
The dataset stores the street address alone with postal abbreviations, like 1543 N Lorel Ave. Search without an apartment or unit number. A building with no result has had no request in the last 12 months.
